PLBG1011 Blueprint Reading and Estimating

The student will learn to read building plans and pipe diagrams, interpret floor plans, elevation views, draw isometrics and sketch detailed work drawings. Student will develop skills in estimating plumbing cost for new installations and remodels and prepare projects using industry developed estimating procedures. Estimates include material, fixtures and labor costs with profit and overhead calculations.

Demonstrate knowledge of Architects scale
List and estimate all material and labor costs
Interpret rough in drawings
Draw isometric pipe drawings of residential buildings
Draw isometric pipe drawings of commercial buildings
Design water systems for residential buildings
Design water systems for commercial buildings
Design a drain waste and vent system for residential buildings
Design a drain waste and vent system for commercial buildings
Interpret mechanical blueprints
Understand all labor and material costs including markup and profit

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Credit Details section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
