PHRM1090 Pharmacy Technician Externship II

This course continues to prepare the student for entering the Pharmacy Technician career field and provides information on career opportunities. Students will continue to apply skills, knowledge and abilities acquired in the classroom in a practical work-based training environment.




Recommended: Prerequisite or concurrent enrollment in PHRM1055, PHRM1060, and PHRM1080

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Demonstrate professional communication skills
Apply computer skills on pharmacy software
Process prescription orders accurately
Demonstrate insurance billing
Apply knowledge of prescription billing methods
Demonstrate dosage calculations
File prescription orders
Apply knowledge in a pharmacy environment
Demonstrate skills necessary to assist the pharmacist
Work as a healthcare team member

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Credit Details section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
