ATEC1505 Brakes
In this course students will learn skills needed to perform repairs on automotive brake systems. The course includes operation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of standard and Anti-Lock Brake Systems. This course meets all applicable National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) standards.

Diagnose hydraulic brake systems
Perform master cylinder bench bleeding procedures
Disassemble disc brake assemblies
Disassemble drum brake assemblies
Inspect brake drum and rotor assemblies
Diagnose braking concerns
Describe anti-lock brake system operation
Diagnose anti-lock brake components
Describe hydraulic brake system operation
Perform drum and rotor machining operations
Adjust brake system components to meet specifications
Assemble brake system components
Diagnose power assist brake unit concerns
Perform wheel bearing service

Course Scheduling
The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Credit Details section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
