POLC2276 Traffic
This course will include instruction in the areas of low risk traffic stops, high risk/felony stops, driving while impaired (DWI) enforcement, and crash management.

Learning Outcomes
The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Employ the pre-stop preparations in traffic stops
Demonstrate the methods to approach and apprehend high risk suspects
Demonstrate proper completion of Minnesota state traffic citation
Identify awareness of driver’s license and vehicle registration issues
Demonstrate techniques in dealing with those who have emotional and/or physical disabilities or conditions
Demonstrate abilities to perform traffic stop techniques
Demonstrate verbal commands for high risk felony stops
Execute positioning of a squad car during traffic stops
Demonstrate the ability to write factual, concise, chronological, and complete reports
Demonstrate guidelines for violator contacts
Demonstrate the ability to deal with subjects/suspects with weapons

Course Scheduling
The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Course Credits section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
