ENGC1041 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
This course is designed to give the student a fundamental understanding of the terms, symbols and principles relating to controlling geometric variations of manufactured parts. Controls include tolerances of forms, orientation and position.
Course Requirements and Evaluation
Refer to Course Syllabus for detailed information regarding the requirements and evaluation standards for this course. The Course Syllabus will be distributed the first week of the course.
Learning Outcomes
The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Explain the purpose of geometric tolerancing
Identify geometric characteristic, material condition and material boundary symbols
Use feature control frames
Describe datum applications
Differentiate between Regardless of Feature size (RFS), Maximum Material Condition (MMC) and Least Material Condition (LMC)
Apply rules and terms of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
Interpret form controls
Interpret orientation controls
Interpret tolerance of position controls
Determine controls that produce concentricity
Determine controls that produce symmetry
Determine virtual condition
Interpret profile tolerance
Interpret runout tolerances
