PLBG1000 Introduction to Piping Procedures
Students will study copper, plastic, cast iron and steel piping, which involves the joining of drainage, waste and vent, water and gas pipes. Students will become familiar with the different types of copper, plastic, cast iron, and steel pipe, fittings and tubing. Students will also utilize and study hand and power plumbing tools. Safe methods of handling and installing piping in accordance with Minnesota State Plumbing Code and general industry accepted standards will be emphasized. Students will apply and obtain the State of Minnesota plumbers apprentice license.

Learning Outcomes
The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Identify different types and sizes of copper, plastic, cast iron, steel pipe and fittings
Operate hand & power copper, plastic, cast iron and steel cutting and cleaning tools
Join copper pipe and fittings using industry standard methods and tools of assembly
Identify different types and sizes of plastic drainage, waste and vent, water supply, gas pipe and fittings
Join plastic pipe and fittings using industry standard methods and tools of assembly
Join cast iron pipe and fittings using industry standard methods and tools of assembly
Join steel pipe and fittings using industry standard methods and tools of assembly
Comprehend all materials and methods of hangar installation
Obtain State of Minnesota plumbers apprentice license

Course Scheduling
The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Credit Details section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
