ARSP2171 Sound Reinforcement I
This course discusses the theory and techniques focused on sound reinforcement. Students will analyze and implement setting up the system, utilize sound reinforcement equipment, work as a member of a team, and troubleshoot problems.

Learning Outcomes
The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Compare console design differences
Setup public address system components
Apply microphone techniques for various musical and non-musical sources
Plan the use of signal processing
Utilize dynamics processors to mix for front of house
Utilize equalization to mix for front of house
Utilize time-based effects to mix for front of house
Troubleshoot public address system equipment
Perform gain-staging
Operate as lead and assistant production team roles
Apply submixing techniques
Apply mute groups
Setup digitally controlled amplifier (DCA) groups

Course Scheduling
The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit, and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations, or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Course Credits section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
