ATEC2810 Hybrid Electric Vehicle Machines and Controls

This course covers the theory and operation of electric machines and power inverters used in hybrid electric vehicles. Provides an overview of the induction machine and the permanent magnet machines. Testing of electric machine and power inverters will be covered.

Describe power inverter function
Analyze insulated gate bipolar transistors
Examine electric machine waveforms
Interpret voltage, horsepower, and torque relationships
Test electric machine stator windings
Perform vehicle diagnostic scan checks
Analyze dc-dc converter operation
Test DC converter output
Identify electric machine sensors

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Credit Details section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
