ITEC2422 CCNA Security

Students will study and implement security features on Cisco routers to protect computer networks from attacks.  The Cisco CCNA Security curriculum provides an introduction to the core security concepts and skills needed for the installation, troubleshooting, and monitoring of network devices to maintain the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of data and devices.  This course is a hands-on, career-oriented course with an emphasis on practical experience to help students develop security skills to advance their careers.

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Describe security threats facing modern network infrastructures
Implement Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) on network devices
Mitigate common Layer 2 attacks
Compare intrusion prevention systems (IPS) and intrusion detection systems (IDS)
Implement site-to-site Internet Protocol security (IPsec) virtual private networks (VPNs)
Mitigate threats to networks using access control lists (ACLs)
Monitor traffic flows through security appliances

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit, and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE).  Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations, or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.  Refer to the Course Credits section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
