MUSC1020 Class Guitar
The purpose of this course is to develop a foundational understanding of beginning guitar techniques as well as an understanding of music notation, improvisation, and functional music theory. This course provides an opportunity for students to explore their musical aspirations through various styles of popular music including Folk, Rock, and Blues guitar. No previous musical experience is necessary. Students are required to provide their own functioning guitar.

Demonstrate tuning the guitar
Perform melodies
Perform chord progressions
Demonstrate the fundamentals of musical notation
Write a descriptive critique of a professional musical performance
Perform accompaniments to selected pieces in a variety of popular music styles

Course Scheduling
The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit, and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations, or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Course Credits section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
