CARP1150 Rafter Framing
This course is designed to provide the opportunity for students to layout, cut and install rafters. Projects may include a full scale roof, a shed roof, Cape Cod dormers and snub gables.

Learning Outcomes
The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Distinguish rafter terminology and components
Review common rafter theory
Develop a roof framing plan
Calculate dimensions of hip and valley rafters
Calculate dimensions of common and jack rafters
Preform layout of hip and valley rafters
Preform layout of common and jack rafters
Identify various dormers and their uses
Cut and Install various rafters

Course Scheduling
The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Credit Details section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
