FLPW1181 Pumps and Actuators

This course is the study of function and application of hydraulic pumps, motors, cylinders and hydraulic accessories.  The course will provide hands-on experiences in testing, analyzing, troubleshooting, and repairing hydraulic pumps, motors, and cylinders.  Industrial hydraulic components and their application will be emphasized.

Explain the difference between positive and non-positive displacement
Describe various hydraulic pumps
Identify various hydraulic pumps
Examine various hydraulic pumps for allowable wear
Setup and run hydraulic pump operational tests
Evaluate various hydraulic pump test performances
Describe various hydraulic motors
Identify various hydraulic motors
Examine various hydraulic motors for allowable wear
Setup and run hydraulic motor operational tests
Evaluate various hydraulic motor test performances
Calculate system volumetric and mechanical efficiencies
Describe cylinder standards
Describe cylinder accessories
Calculate cylinder forces
Setup and run cylinder operational tests
Demonstrate shop safety practices

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.
