POLC1205 Physical Fitness for Peace Officers

This course provides instruction in the concepts and techniques of physical exercise for both on duty and off duty peace officers. Students will be exposed to basic factors of exercise, different types of exercises and the frequency, duration and intensity of the training.  This course educates learners in the testing requirements for many law enforcement agencies.

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Assess student fitness level as in the role of a peace officer
Create goals based on fitness level
Analyze concepts and techniques of physical fitness such as cardiovascular, flexibility, agility, strength, and endurance, which are important to peace officer’s health
Apply knowledge of nutrition to personal health goals
Articulate the long-term benefits of maintaining mental and physical health for peace officers

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit, and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE).  Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations, or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.  Refer to the Course Credits section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
