EMSV2026 Community Paramedic Quality Improvement

Students will be introduced to quality improvement practices and skills, preparing them for current and future leadership roles in community paramedicine. This course includes the knowledge and skills required to develop sustainable community paramedic programs that meet the needs of local communities and populations. They will grapple with the real-world challenges of designing and advocating for community paramedic programs. Students will be provided with the opportunity to develop implementation strategies, facilitate primary care integration, and use evaluation frameworks to measure key outcomes of community paramedic programs.

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Develop quality improvement capabilities that prepare Community Paramedics for current and future leadership roles in community paramedicine.
Describe sustainable community paramedic programs that meet the needs of local communities and populations.
Discuss real-world challenges of designing and advocating for community paramedic programs.
Develop implementation strategies and primary care integration
Evaluate frameworks to measure key outcomes of community paramedic programs. 
Develop a working community paramedic model

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit, and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE).  Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations, or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.  Refer to the Course Credits section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
