FACM1030 Plumbing Basics

This course is an introduction to plumbing within facility applications. Through a combination of lecture and hands-on labs, students will be exposed to identifying, servicing, and the repair of plumbing systems.  Topics will include plumbing fixtures, water heaters, potable water systems, drain, waste and venting systems.

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Identify plumbing procedures and terminology
Apply proper safety techniques and procedures
Demonstrate service and repair of plumbing fixtures
Demonstrate service and repair of water heaters 
Demonstrate service and repair of potable water systems
Demonstrate service and repair of drain, waste and vent systems

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit, and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE).  Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations, or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.  Refer to the Course Credits section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
