Mechanical Drafting Associate of Applied Science Degree

Overview and Award Outcomes

Overview

This degree is designed for online learners who want a career in mechanical drafting.  Mechanical drafters are an important part of the engineering department of manufacturing firms. Mechanical drafters use CAD software to create accurate blueprints. Attention to detail helps mechanical drafters translate the engineering requirements and manufacturing methods into a set of working drawings to communicate clearly with manufacturing and inspection departments.

Award Outcomes

Produce orthographic view drawings

Dimension detail drawings

Revise detail drawings

Create assembly drawings

Apply tolerances to drawings

Apply drafting standards to engineering drawings

Capture design intent

Career Opportunities

Persons trained in mechanical drafting find job opportunities in a multitude of manufacturing facilities including transportation, machine design, medical device, and sheet metal. Graduates may also find employment through contract agencies. Demand for mechanical drafters is stable and the skills developed are critical to digital manufacturing methods.
