Testing

Placement Testing

In accordance with Minnesota State’s board policy, testing is administered to place students into appropriate courses that ensure the best chance for success in college. Required placement tests are dependent on the student’s program requirements. Students should reach out to their Student Success Advisor or the HTC Testing Center to determine what placement tests are needed for their program. Students are allowed to retest in reading, mathematics, computer literacy, or keyboarding once. Additional attempts are allowed once they have obtained Student Success Advisor or Counselor approval. Valid photo identification is required to test. If accommodations are needed based on a disability, contact Access Services prior to testing.

It is recommended that students refresh their skills before taking the placement tests. The tests are meant to indicate your current skill level – not your potential. Study materials are available on the HTC Testing Center website.

Test waivers may be available based on qualifying high school GPA, prior college coursework, ACT/SAT/MCA test scores or acceptable Accuplacer test scores from another institution. More information available regarding test waivers on the HTC Testing Center website.
