Overview
The Emergency Management Principles Certificate encompasses the foundational knowledge necessary for the student to address successfully the threats or hazards facing organizations today. Students within the certificate examine issues that arise prior to, during, and after a disaster or emergency and develop disaster relief plans for local, municipal, and government agencies. This program is designed for students seeking entry-level exposure to the emergency management field, as well as for professionals in industries such as fire science, homeland security, and emergency response administration who are seeking to bolster their emergency management background.
After successfully completing this award, students will have completed the required prerequisite training for the Minnesota Emergency Manager and Critical Infrastructure Planner certifications through the Minnesota Department of Homeland Security and various prerequisites to attended training at the national level through the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium. Additionally, students who complete the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Professional Development Series will earn a certificate from FEMA.
