CMAE1514 Safety and Employability
This course aligns with the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council’s (MSSC) assessment and certification system for Safety. The curriculum is based upon federally endorsed national standards for production workers including Occupational Safety Health Association (OSHA) standards relating to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), lockout/tagout (LOTO), Hazardous Material (HAZMAT), tool safety, and confined spaces. Students will take the MSSC Safety and Employability 4.0 certification exam upon completion of the course content.

Learning Outcomes
The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Implement safe workplace practices for Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)
Describe procedures for variety of emergency situations
Choose correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for workplace environment
Describe applicable OSHA requirements for maintenance, installation, and repair
Describe appropriate communication and behaviors in a workplace

Course Scheduling
The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Credit Details section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
