CMAE1535 Manufacturing Associate

This course will cover fundamental topics such as shop math, assembly, maintenance, machining, inspection, and more, this industry-driven certification demonstrates that the individual has basic knowledge of manufacturing and may be an ideal candidate for entry-level manufacturing employment.

This course aligns to SME’s Certified Manufacturing Associate (CMfgA), an industry certification focused on basic manufacturing concepts, demonstrating an individual's potential for high-demand, entry-level manufacturing roles. It was designed for individuals new to manufacturing This is designed for people who wish to pursue a role as an assembler, manufacturing associate, production laborer and other entry-level manufacturing occupations.  Students will take the CMfgA test at the end of the course.

Course Requirements and Evaluation

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Solve basic mathematical calculations
Demonstrate systems of measurement
Describe best practices for safely assembling components
Describe basic safety practices as applied to manufacturing
Describe OSHA regulations as applied to manufacturing
Describe the importance of quality throughout the manufacturing process
Apply Lean/Continuous improvement processes to the manufacturing process
Describe basic inspection processes
Differentiate fasteners
Describe common components of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine tools and controls
Describe the basic types of industrial robotics
Apply safety protocols for working with industrial robots
Identify the basic additive manufacturing processes

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit, and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE).  Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations, or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.  Refer to the Course Credits section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
