NURS1440 Nursing Clinical I
This course provides the learner an opportunity to apply nursing judgment using the nursing process to implement safe, confidential, client-centered care. The clinical focuses on basic focused assessments, collecting data, implementing learned skills, and documenting findings.

Learning Outcomes
The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Demonstrate therapeutic communication while using the nursing process
Demonstrate effective communication when working with interprofessional team members, documenting cares, and reporting to appropriate team members
Demonstrate safe nursing practice when performing focused assessments with clients
Utilize the nursing process to assess, choose interventions, monitor responses, and report to appropriate personnel changes detected in the patient’s condition
Utilize appropriate documentation for provision and outcomes of client care
Demonstrate culturally sensitive client care across the lifespan and in various health care settings

Course Scheduling
The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit, and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations, or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Course Credits section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
