NURS1430 Medication Calculations

This course will introduce students to different systems of measurement and the different equivalents of measurement used to convert between systems. Students will be introduced to theory and skills related to calculating medications dosages.

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Perform unit conversions including the metric and imperial systems of measurement
Complete oral dosage calculations 
Complete parenteral dosage calculations
Complete dosage calculations requiring reconstitution
Complete calculations for recommended safe dosages by weight 
Calculate IV fluid rates

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit, and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE).  Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations, or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.  Refer to the Course Credits section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
