POLC2295 Basic Firearms

This course introduces the Hennepin Technical College Peace Officer Student to the basic nomenclature, safe handling, and functions of the semi-automatic pistol along with the safety rules of the firing range.

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Identify the required safety range rules
Execute how to clear a malfunction of the Glock 9mm semi-automatic pistol
Apply proper breakdown and cleaning of the Glock 9mm semi-automatic pistol
Apply master grip before firing the pistol in both dominant and non-dominant hands
Differentiate the use of the front site from close distances and the extended shooting position

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit, and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE).  Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations, or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.  Refer to the Course Credits section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
