Placement Testing

In accordance with Minnesota State’s board policy, testing is administered to place students into appropriate courses that ensure the best chance for success in college. Required placement tests are dependent on the student’s program requirements. Students should reach out to their Student Success Advisor or the Testing Center to determine what placement tests are needed for their program.

Students are allowed to retest in reading, mathematics, computer literacy, or keyboarding once. Additional attempts are allowed once they have obtained Student Success Advisor or Counselor approval. Valid photo identification is required to test. If accommodations are needed based on a disability, contact Access Services prior to testing.

It is recommended that students refresh their skills before taking the placement tests. The tests are meant to indicate your current skill level—not your potential. Study materials are available on the Testing Center web page.

Test waivers may be available based on qualifying high school GPA , prior college coursework, ACT/SAT/MCA test scores or acceptable Accuplacer test scores from another institution. More information available regarding test waivers on the Testing Center webpage.

College Level Examination Program

College Level Examination Program (CLEP) Exams test college level proficiencies and allow students to earn college credit, potentially saving time toward degree completion. Additional information on CLEP testing is available on Testing Center webpage.

Make-up Testing

The Testing Centers offer makeup test services for Hennepin Tech students. This service is only available to those students who, due to unforeseeable circumstances, cannot be present to attend the original exam date.

Makeup testing is reserved on an individual basis for students who have prior approval from their course instructor. Students are responsible for letting their instructor know the date and time they have scheduled make-up testing to ensure the proper test materials are sent to the Testing Center.

Proctoring Services

The Testing Centers also provide proctoring services for various programmatic and industry tests, including, but not limited to: TEAS, NOCTI, and Pearson Vue exams. Proctoring fees may apply. Please email Testing@HennepinTech.edu to request a proctored service.
