MUBE2005 Musicianship II

This course provides students with an intermediate knowledge of applied music theory and performance including notation, aural training, and introductory keyboard skills. Students also explore several industry standard notation software titles.

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Transcribe music through aural practice
Develop critical and analytical listening skills
Develop proper notation skills using industry standard notation software
Identify major scale modes, harmonic minor, and melodic minor scales
Notate major scale modes, harmonic minor, and melodic minor scales
Identify intervals and interval quality above an octave
Notate intervals and interval quality above an octave
Identify 7th chord qualities
Notate 7th chord qualities
Define formal/structural concepts specific to common-practice methods
Develop skills necessary to communicate about music with professional musicians and lay-listeners
Create short musical compositions appropriate to course concepts

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE).  Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.  Refer to the Course Credits section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
