NURS2325 Pharmacology II

This course continues student learning of pharmacological concepts, drug classifications, common adverse/side effects, and contraindications to administration of medications. The role of technology for safe medication administration and legal documentation is explored further.

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Explain classifications of medications, side effects, contraindications and nursing implications for medications related to medical/surgical conditions
Describe actual and potential complications related to medication administration for individual patients across the lifespan
Describe principles of safe medication and the nurses’ role in preventing medication errors and actual/potential client complications
Identify reliable information related to pharmacology to use for medication information
Analyze the legal and ethical implications related to the administration of medications across the lifespan
Identify the learning needs for clients taking various classifications of medications

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit, and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE).  Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations, or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.  Refer to the Course Credits section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
