NURS2381 Nursing Care Across the Lifespan
This course provides the learner introduction to theories of human development and progressive states of physical, psychosocial, cognitive, and moral development throughout the lifespan from prenatal considerations to end of life. The course continues discussion of ethical decision making, professional identify and behaviors, client-centered care, evidence-based practice, and transitioning to the role of a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

Learning Outcomes
The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Explain developmentally appropriate nursing interventions and communication techniques that reflect awareness of physiological, psychological, spiritual, and cultural needs across the lifespan
Recognize standards of practice and the importance of practicing in accordance with state regulations and statues for the scope of practice for the LPN
Demonstrate professional behaviors and accountability to legal and ethical nursing practice standard for a competent practical nurse
Participate as a member of the inter-professional team, collaborating with the inter-professional team to promote safe, quality, and client-centered care
Utilize evidence-based nursing judgement while prioritizing care, implementing interventions, and promoting the health of individuals across the lifespan
Apply nursing knowledge within an established plan of care for an individual client in organization of cares under the direction of an RN or other healthcare provider
Examine best practices of quality improvement in the nursing environment and client outcomes within the role of the practical nurse

Course Scheduling
The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit, and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations, or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Course Credits section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
