NURS2376 Medical Surgical Nursing II

This course continues to examine pathophysiological alterations in functioning. The nursing process and critical thinking are reinforced with integration of the principles of therapeutic communication, nutrition, and pharmacological interventions.

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Illustrate use of the nursing process contributing to the plan of care for clients with altered health conditions, including individuals with co-morbidities
Explain pathophysiological processes, diagnostic tests, and nursing management of clients with complex health conditions, including individuals with co-morbidities
Apply knowledge of health promotion, nutrition, and pharmacological interventions to client-centered care of individuals with complex health conditions
Describe rationales for nursing judgments and prioritization of cares for clients with complex disease processes
Demonstrate use of evidence-based resources related to the care of clients with health conditions and safety concerns
Recognize best practices of quality improvement in the nursing environment and client outcomes
Recognize appropriate nursing interventions and communication techniques that reflect awareness of physiological, psychological, spiritual, and cultural needs

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit, and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE).  Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations, or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.  Refer to the Course Credits section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
