ARSP2270 Sound Reinforcement II

This course discusses the theory and techniques focused on monitoring mixing for sound reinforcement. Students will analyze and implement setting up the monitor systems, utilize sound reinforcement equipment, work as a member of a team, and troubleshoot problems.

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Analyze common monitor system designs
Setup stage-monitor systems and In-ear-monitor systems
Utilize dynamics processors to mix for monitors
Utilize equalization to mix for monitors
Utilize time-based effects to mix monitors
Troubleshoot monitor system equipment
Perform gain-staging
Operate as a monitor mixer in a production
Perform monitor mixing while front-of-house mixing
Create monitor mixes for small and large scale productions
Minimize feedback in monitoring system
Plan signal flow for small and large scale productions

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit, and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE).  Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations, or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.  Refer to the Course Credits section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
