CELE2010 Electric Motor Controls I
This course introduces the basic construction and operation of motor control equipment, including different types of electrical diagrams, protective devices, application and connection of controls for single-phase and three-phase alternating current (AC) motors.

Learning Outcomes
The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Explain the basic principles of electric motor control systems
Describe the main components of motor control circuits
Identify electrical symbols and types of electrical diagrams
Demonstrate the application, operation, and connections of manual and magnetic motor starters
Demonstrate the ability to wire motor control circuits for single-phase and three-phase motors
Explain the purpose of overload protection devices in motor control circuits
Demonstrate workplace safety procedures and precautions when working with motor control circuits

Course Scheduling
The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit, and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations, or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Course Credits section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
