CELE2030 Programmable Logic Controls I

This course covers the basic theory, operation, installation and practical application of programmable logic controllers (PLC). Ladder logic, symbols, creating and downloading of programs are also covered.

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Identify the components a programmable logic controller
Identify the operation processes of a PLC
Explain the basic PLC programming languages
Interpret ladder logic diagrams
Identify the types of input and output devices used in PLC systems
Create, modify, and load simple programs into a PLC
Demonstrate how to program and implement basic control functions
Demonstrate how to diagnose and troubleshoot common PLC issues
Identify safety concerns associated with PLC-controlled systems

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit, and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE).  Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations, or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.  Refer to the Course Credits section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
