ACCT1145 Business Law for Accountants (On Hold)

This course is an introduction to the principles of law as they apply to businesses. Topics covered include the court system, contracts, purchases and sales under the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), commercial paper, employment law and business organizations and bailments.

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
List sources of law
Distinguish between a crime and a tort
Identify the elements of a valid contract
Apply the provisions of the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) to sales contracts
List the requirements for negotiability
Describe principal/agent relationships
List advantages and disadvantages of partnerships
Distinguish between real and personal property
Differentiate between the types of bailments

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE).  Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.  Refer to the Credit Details section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
