CCIS2651 Java II - On Hold
This course is a continuation of Java I, and prepares students to develop real-world projects using Java. Students will be able to apply the object-oriented approach to develop applications with graphics, exception handling, database handling, I/O, and networking. Object-oriented design topics include the need for design, object-oriented design, design of classes and objects, object relationships, design patterns, and the Unified Modeling Language.

Learning Outcomes
The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Explain the basic principles of object-oriented software
Describe the software life cycle
Describe several industry standard software models
Explain what is required for software to be object-oriented
Explain a design cycle, including setting system bounds
Explain the major diagram types in the Unified Modeling Language (UML)
Apply use cases to the design of Java classes and collaborations
Create programming code in Java
Use composition to simplify an object-oriented design
Design and program concurrent objects for multithreading
Write a well-designed program (according to industry standards) GUI using Swing
Demonstrate the use of exceptions in a program

Course Scheduling
The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Credit Details section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
