PHRM1050 Pharmacotherapy and Epidemiology of Disease Processes - This course has been changed to PHRM1055

The basic concepts of drug therapy, their therapeutic classes and common uses will be presented. The development of basic proficiency in the use of drug resources will be covered. The relationship of pharmacotherapy with the incidence, distribution and control of various diseases will also be presented.

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Identify drug therapy for different disease processes
Categorize drugs into therapeutic classes and common uses
Recognize characteristics of disease processes
Explain disease transmission and risks
Recognize the effects of nutrition and heredity on disease
Explain environmental effects on disease
Identify drugs by brand and generic names
Review medication orders and profiles for safety
Develop proficiency in the use of drug resources
Describe immune system disorders and responses

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.
