SOCI2130 Food and Society - Replaced by: SOCI1600 - new gen ed # - Summer 2022
This is a course about the social relations of our food system: how we produce, distribute, prepare and consume our food. Students will explore topics of culture, identity, and history as well as the effects of our food system on public health, social inequality, and the environment on both a local and global level. Students will also explore alternatives to the current food system.
Prerequisite
Qualifying score on reading assessment test OR
ENGL0921 and Qualifying score on writing assessment test OR
ENGL1021 or
ENGL1026. Basic computer skills recommended

Course Scheduling
The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.
