CCIS2560 Visual Basic II (On Hold)

This course will be a continuation of Visual Basic I also using the Microsoft .NET framework.  Emphasis in this course will be on using advanced Windows forms control, ASP.NET, and ADO.NET.  Other topics included are Crystal Reports, Windows Installer, XML and INI file processing, processing MS-SQL databases, WEB services and calling Windows processes.  Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to program complete Windows-based and WEB-based applications using a variety of advanced techniques.

Course Requirements and Evaluation

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:

Create program code that queries, inserts, updates and deletes from SQL databases using ADO .NET 

Construct object classes that are imported and used in other programs 
Create web forms using ASP .NET  
Create program code that utilizes Crystal Reports  
Create program code that uses complex controls such as datagridview 
Create program code that use WEB programming components like cookies and Javascript 
Use .INI and XML file processing techniques 
Apply the Windows Installer deployment project for application packaging 
Construct advanced user interfaces using icons, system tray, anchoring and form sizing 
Generate programs that include using the built-in LOGIN controls and logic 
Generate web services to be used in business applications 
Utilize programming techniques that call and/or start Windows processes and threads

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE).  Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.  Refer to the Course Credits section of this syllabus for the credit breakdown.
