CHEM2200 Essentials of General, Organic and Biochemistry - Replaced by CHEM2201 - FY21

This lecture/laboratory based course covers the essential concepts, methods, and skills of general, organic, and biochemistry. It builds on general chemistry concepts to develop an understanding of organic and biochemical properties and reactions.

Qualifying score on math assessment test OR MATH1500 and BIOL2005 or BIOL2045

Describe modes of metabolic regulation
Differentiate between carbohydrate types
Discuss methods for purifying proteins
Explain actions of different enzyme inhibitors
Identify types of lipids
List types of organic/bio chemicals

Solve chemical reaction based problems
Search internet for relevant information
Diagnose problems in equipment
Plot graph for data analysis
Observe compound purification
Organize procedures for proper data acquisition

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.
