FRPT1055 Principles of Fire Service Safety and Survival (On Hold)
This course introduces the basic principles and history related to the national firefighter life safety initiatives, focusing on the need for cultural and behavior change throughout the emergency services.

Learning Outcomes
The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Explain the 16 life safety initiatives
Validate the need for national training standards as they correlate to professional development
Understand the concepts of risk management and mitigation as it pertains to emergency services
Defend the need for annual medical evaluations and the establishment of physical fitness criteria

Course Scheduling
The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Course Credits section of this syllabus for the credit breakdown.
