LAWE2245 Law Enforcement Response (Deleted - April 2020)

This course will include instruction in the areas of Victim/Witness Rights, Vulnerable Adults, Emergency Hospitalization, Sexual Assault, Child Abuse/Neglect, Police Interviewing and Backgrounds, Mental Health Awareness, Gangs, Narcotics, Radio Communication, and Fitness.

Admission into the Law Enforcement Program.

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Identify the psychological concepts involved in officer/violator contacts
Utilize police radio procedures
Assess dangers responding to crimes in progress
Identify rules of engagement in various situations
Demonstrate communication skills in a variety of scenarios
Demonstrate the ability to deal with reactions of violators
Recognize cultural diversity issues 
Demonstrate techniques in dealing with those individuals who have emotional/physical disabilities or conditions

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE).  Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.  Refer to the Credit Details section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
