FRPT1235 Ropes II - On Hold

This course begins with an introduction of new equipment and techniques. The class then moves outside for hands on training in Knot Passing while on Rappel, Rappelling with a Brake Bar Rack and Pick-Offs. The student will work with Mechanical Advantage Systems, Highlines and Passing a knot through the system. The course includes multiple practical rescue scenarios with an increasing degree of difficult. It is recommended that this course be taken at lease 6 months after attending Ropes I.

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Demonstrate the ability to rig safe and secure anchors
Demonstrate the proper use and care of equipment needed in the high angle environment
Explain the techniques used to maintain effective communications during a rescue
Demonstrate the ability to safely and confidently belay another person

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE).  Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.  Refer to the Credit Details section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
