CDEV1125 - Replaced by: CDEV1520 Guiding Children's Behavior

The student will examine positive strategies to guide children's behavior. The student will examine ways to establish supportive relationships with children guiding them in order to enhance learning, development, and well-being. Students must have consistent access to a toddler through school age child for the final project.

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Investigate guidance styles
Examine cultural differences in child rearing and guiding styles
Evaluate ways to prevent behavior problems
Facilitate smooth transitions
Provide a supportive environment where children can learn
Communicate with colleagues and family to provide consistency in guidance
Describe positive guidance approaches
Use a variety of age appropriate positive guidance methods
Evaluate guidance strategies

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Credit Details section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
