CCIS2431 Security Solutions 3 (Windows) (On Hold)

This course discusses security implementations for Microsoft`s Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server.  Instruction will include authentication methods, common network attacks and how to safeguard against them, communication security (remote access, e-mail, the web, directory and file transfer, and wireless data), infrastructure security (network devices and media, and the proper use of perimeter topologies such as DMZs, Extranets, and Intranets to establish network security). Cryptography basics are provided, including the differences between asymmetric and symmetric algorithms, and the different types of PKI certificates and their usage. Operational/organizational security is discussed as it relates to physical security, and disaster recovery.

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:

Install ISA server 
Explore sources used to monitor the latest threats to technology 
Identify top sources of network threats 
Prepare a risk assessment for a corporate network 
Develop a strategy to protect desktop computers in peer-to-peer network environment 
Incorporate forced security updates pushed from a central server 
Formulate a corporate network security policy document 
Design a multi-layer protection strategy to be used on a corporate network level 
Justify the allocation of IT time spent on threat prevention

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE).  Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.  Refer to the Course Credits section of this syllabus for the credit breakdown.
