NURS1143 Infection Control (On Hold)
Utilizing a fully on-line course format, the student will learn about different infectious organisms and their influence on the human body. The student will review the history of infection control, discover how the disease process works and investigate how the complex immune system functions. Standard and transmission-based precautions will be discussed. Methods to enhance immunity and assist in the prevention of disease transmission will be covered. This course will cover the characteristics of hazardous wastes and its safe handling, storage, and disposal.
Prerequisite
Qualifying score on the computer literacy assessment test OR
CPLT1100 or
CPLT1200. High School diploma or GED or concurrently enrolled under the PSEOP
Course Requirements and Evaluation

Describe the body's defense mechanisms against infection
Recognize and discuss modern infection control threats
Demonstrate proper use of personal protective equipment

Course Scheduling
The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.
