CCIS2610 XML I - On Hold
This course will provide students a thorough understanding of the basics of XML. The class will emphasize hands on instruction and practical usage of XML. This course is for the beginning XML student. It assumes some knowledge of web pages in HTML, and some previous programming.

Learning Outcomes
The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Compare differences between HTML, eXtensible Markup Language and Dynamic HTML
Identify the history and objectives of XML
Describe a universal data transmission format including the uses for XML
Create well-formed and valid XML
Display XML documents in browsers using CSS and XSL
Link to files outside of an XML document
Compare the difference between DTD`s and XML schemas
Create XML documents
Compare the difference between elements and attributes
Use XSL to convert from one XML format to another
Demonstrate a familiarity with the Document Object Model (DOM)
Explain the Simple API for XML (SAX and DOM)
Describe the functional difference between XML and databases

Course Scheduling
The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Credit Details section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
