NURS1280 Geriatric Nursing (On Hold)
This course will expand the students' knowledge of nursing care in the geriatric population. It will address geriatric nursing care in a variety of life settings and prepare the student for work in elder care.
Prerequisite
NURS1141 and NURS1191 or current RN or LPN license

Learning Outcomes
The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Demonstrate data collection for the Minimum Data Set (MDS) process in documentation
Identify health issues for the geriatric client
Identify medication considerations
Comparecognitive dysfunctions
Explain the physiological processes of diseases
Describe pain management
Identify nutritional concerns

Course Scheduling
The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Credit Details section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
