LANG1100 Beginning Spanish I (Delete - May 2021)
This course has been developed for students with very minimal previous experience with languages. The student will study and practice basic writing, reading, pronunciation and listening skills. Special emphasis will be placed upon cultural aspects and basic communication at the worksite.

Learning Outcomes
The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Comprehend Spanish pronunciation.
Comprehend Spanish grammatical concepts.
Comprehend Spanish sentence structure.
Follow the conventions of the Spanish language.
Explain the concepts of subject pronouns, gender, present tense, adjective agreement, ir+a+infinitive.
Listen to and understand simple dialogs and short narrations.
Speak clearly in Spanish about oneself, interests, studies and daily activities.
Read and understand the content of basic written materials.
Write short compositions, dialogs, and short letters in Spanish.
Use and apply grammatical concepts and verb tenses studied in class in oral work.
Use and apply grammatical concepts and verb tenses studied in class in written work.
Research Spanish cultures around the world.
Participate in group presentation on the ways of life and contributions of Spanish speaking peoples.
Participate in skits with Spanish dialog.
Participate in discussions of Spanish videos "Destinos".
Complete an oral interview demonstrating a designated proficiency in Spanish.

Course Scheduling
The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Credit Details section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
