LANG2010 American Sign Language/Deaf Culture II (Delete - May 2021)
This course is designed to increase students’ American Sign Language vocabulary and provide additional awareness of and insight into the deaf culture. This course builds upon the skills developed in LANG2000.

Learning Outcomes
The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Use sign language to communicate
Decode sign language
Integrate manual markers and sign execution to convey meaning
Apply appropriate sign language parameters
Analyze the grammar of sign language
Identify ways to communicate with individuals who are hard of hearing
Analyze the differences in how deaf and hard of hearing people identify themselves
Explain behavioral norms and accepted social interaction within the Deaf community
Contrast American hearing society's cultural values with the cultural values of the Deaf community
Manipulate technology used by deaf consumers

Course Scheduling
The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Credit Details section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
