LRTT1025 LRV Operations: Electronics

This course is designed to provide the student with the basic electronic concepts as they apply to diodes, transistors and other solid-state circuits. Additional topics include basic wave-forms, Boolean logic, integrated circuit fundamentals, and binary and hexadecimal. Students will design and evaluate circuits.

Learning Outcomes

The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Describe the characteristics of semi-conductors
Identify diodes and their characteristics
Identify different types of semi-conductor devices from their schematic symbols
Explain the operating characteristics of basic semi-conductor devices
Identify the applications of basic wave forms
Convert values between decimal, binary and hexadecimal number systems
Explain the function of various rectifiers
Describe high-speed switching semi-conductor applications
Breadboard a circuit which performs a Boolean “AND” function
Breadboard a circuit which performs a Boolean “OR” function
Breadboard a circuit which performs a Boolean “NAND” function
Breadboard a circuit which performs a combination of different Boolean functions

Course Scheduling

The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty two hours for each lab credit and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE).  Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals.  Refer to the Course Credits section of this syllabus for the credit breakdown.
